New Formal Element
New yew hedge planted to enhance existing border
A new yew hedge was introduced to provide a strong, evergreen backdrop to an established mixed border, carefully planned and executed at exactly the right time of year to ensure successful establishment. A trench was excavated using heavy machinery to create consistent depth and optimal ground conditions, before rootballed yew plants were set out and planted at precise intervals to achieve an even, cohesive line. Following planting, the hedge was mulched and maintained with close attention through its formative years—regular aftercare that is essential for healthy establishment. Just a couple of years on, the hedge is already knitting together beautifully, forming a rich, dark green foil that perfectly enhances the soft, historic character of Rosa mundi in the border in front. It stands as a testament to the importance of correct timing, proper planting technique, and ongoing, knowledgeable maintenance.
